Does your dog need a canine friend to play with? Then Esme is your girl. Big or small, she loves to play with other dogs. Esme was rescued from an animal Hoarder. Like many puppy mill and hoarder dogs, Esme finds it easier to bond with other dogs than with people. She is the perfect fit for someone looking for a companion for their dog(s) because she will not compete with them for attention. She is really happiest when she can just blend in. She's not a spotlight kind of girl and is not (yet) a lap pet. A securely fenced yard and at least one other dog are requirements for adopting Esme.

I love: treats, soft beds, wrestling with other dogs and tennis balls.

I get along well with: all of the dogs in my foster home. I am happiest with another dog to play with and am looking for a home with at least one other dog who I can follow.

I would rather not: be forced to interact with people. Let me come to you when I am ready, or just stay on the sidelines if I choose.

I need: a home with someone who will be patient with me and let me come around at my own pace, preferably with another dog or two.  A house without the hustle and bustle of kids would be best. I also need monthly medication (provided by CARE) to get rid of my heartworms.

My skills are: I am crate trained and almost house broken.

Esme is one of 10 dogs CARE took in several months ago from a hoarder bust.  She came in with her pup Emmett who sadly passed away shortly after coming to our rescue. All of the others have been adopted, but Esme was the most affected by her former life. Read this article to learn more about how life in a puppy mill or with an animal hoarder affects dogs and how to make them happy and whole again! http://www.aspcabehavior.org/articles/185/Adopting-a-Puppy-Mill-Dog.aspx

All dogs receive a distemper/parvovirus vaccine(s), kennel cough vaccine, rabies vaccine, dewormer, monthly heartworm prevention, microchip, and are spayed/neutered through CARE.
