Arianna was pulled by a volunteer from a local kill shelter. She was in with a Chihuahua, so the volunteer decided to pull both and take them home. After getting her home, she realized over the next few days that Arianna wasn't just a scared 8 mos. old puppy.
Arianna, as it turns out, was actually a feral puppy who had been picked up off the streets as a stray. She has been with us for a year now and has been growing and learning. She's absolutely beautiful and wants to trust us so badly. She never attacks, only retreats. She loves to have a leader dog or puppy as her companion. She has come a long way, but still has a long way to go to be considered a "pet." She is a Benji-like dog, so her breed mix was chosen from what the first Benji, Higgins, was considered to be a mix of (Schnauzer, Poodle, and Cocker). See this link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benji At this time, Arianna lives in a very large pen with a wooden hutch and hay, plus toys, food and water. The pen is wrapped in plastic for the Winter. She's vetted and on heartworm prevention, plus Comfortis as a flea preventative. She has a companion now at all times. We pull a friend for her who had been abandoned and saved his life at the same time. As each companion gets adopted, another one will be pulled. We are hoping that someone out there will see the beauty and rewards in adopting a dog like Arianna. She too deserves to have a forever home and family, and a constant companion(s). If she is adopted, it will open up space for another dog lacking in social skills. This pen is used for rehab cases, such as chain dogs, feral dogs, and feral cats. As they learn more and tame down, they are typically moved to an inside foster home, then after more training, adopted out. Arianna may never come as far as some of the others in the past, but we will continue to work with her and hold our hopes that she will. If you have a good set up for her, like a farm with a fenced in area and a canine friend she can look up to... this girl just needs a warm place to sleep, food, water, and a loving heart. We will continue to work with her adopters and support them throughout her life if needed. Arianna smiles, she plays, she loves to come for cookies when called. She is only in a pen, instead of the fenced yard, because her foster home has other dogs in the house who come into the yard to potty and also play. Some of these dogs are not good with smaller, fuzzy dogs. She does get play time in the yard with her companion, who is currently Bones (also for adoption). Please, if you do have an environment for Arianna, consider opening your heart and mind to her. She's absolutely precious. If you have an indoor/outdoor set up to your house, she use to live inside too. She will follow another dog in and out and won't potty in the house. She was only removed from that foster home because she did not do well with very small dogs. So, if you have a companion about 30 lbs. and up, she'd love to come be their companion... and yours if you give her time. All dogs receive a distemper/parvovirus vaccine(s), kennel cough vaccine, rabies vaccine, dewormer, monthly heartworm prevention, and are spayed/neutered through CARE.
